This was my second Spitfire which started as an ARTF but
the covering was a mess and had become wrinkled and needed replacing, so the
whole airframe was stripped. While the wing was stripped some scale intakes
were fitted to the bottom of the wing and the undercarriage was
repositioned to give a scale stance, air retracts were also fitted. The model
was recovered using Aluminium Solartex and then painted with Humbrol enamels.
When dry the model was weathered by scraping paint off at panel lines and wear
areas revealing the alloy Solartex underneath (nice). more weathering was done
using artists pastels at panel lines leaving a dirty smearing (see close-up
shot). Markings were added and the whole thing fuel proofed with Ronseal Matt
Polyurethane varnish (it does what it says on the tin)
Shot of the "Spit" showing the "office" and some of the
weathering. Note the open cockpit, it slid shut for flying.
